People
CSGSA will not be as successful as it is without the help of all of our amazing representatives, co-ordinators and volunteers. If you fancy being in one of these roles, the form for self-nominations go out sometime in late spring, keep an eye out for it!
Here are some of the people in these roles currently.
Department Graduate Committee Student Representatives
The Graduate Committee is charged with a broad range of graduate student affairs, both for Masters and PhD students. This committee reviews all applications for admission to the Masters and Doctoral programs in Computer Science. All problems regarding any proposed changes to both the Master’s program and the Ph.D. program are handled by this Graduate Committee. It is also responsible for defining course content, considering new course offerings, and other issues for the graduate degree programs. There are three student representatives on the Graduate Committee, two PhD students and one Masters student.
Neelima Prasad
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers
Bio: Neelima is a 3nd year PhD student currently studying computer vision and deep learning. She loves dancing, cooking and exploring new cities. She can often be found in the forest photographing birds.
Chandana Sunkara
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers
Bio: Chandana is a Master’s student in Computer Science. She is excited about using technology to build thoughtful, user-centred solutions and looking forward to collaborating with peers to make our grad community more connected, inclusive, and inspiring.
Department Executive Committee Student Representative
Breane Crockett
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers
Bio: Breanne is a PhD student working on human-robot interaction in the Collaborative AI and Robotics lab. In her free time, she enjoys knitting, hiking and playing trumpet in local Boulder bands.
The student member of this committee is considered to be the senior student representative. This committee usually meets once a week and is concerned with all Department issues: budget, space, promotions, etc. The Executive Committee also reviews applications from prospective new faculty members. The student representative sits on both the Executive Committee and the Search Committee with one full vote. This position provides an excellent opportunity to see how an academic Department is really run. Sometimes the representative is required to poll graduate student opinion and is usually in charge of taking prospective new faculty members out to lunch with a group of graduate students.
Tea Time Co-ordinator
Tea time is weekly social event with tea, snacks, board games and lots of fun. The Tea time coordinator(or the Chai Champion) is responsible for hosting the event, making sure the supplies are stocked, and sending out a reminder email.
Nicholas Lewchenko
Pronouns: He/Him/His
Bio: Nicholas is a PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Colorado Boulder, advised by Professor Gowtham Kaki and formerly by Professor Pavol Černý. His research focuses on the intersection of programming languages and distributed systems, with an emphasis on identifying programming model restrictions that make distributed programs easier to write, verify, and reason about.
